In Māori tradition, Kurawaka is the sacred place where Tāne fashioned the first woman, Hine-ahu-one, from the soil of Papatūānuku — the earth mother. It is the origin of humankind, the point where life sprang from the land.
Aho speaks to the thread, the lineage and the binding connection that runs through generations. Tangata is people — all of us who carry that thread.
Together, Kurawaka: Aho Tangata means the sacred thread of humanity from Kurawaka — the lineage that begins with the earth and returns to it. It is why we do what we do: to honour that journey with dignity, story and care.
Our caskets are crafted with the belief that every life is a unique thread woven into the great cloak of our people. We create vessels that uphold mana, aroha, and whakapapa, ensuring that the final stage of one's journey is met with dignity, beauty, and cultural integrity.
Each design reflects a blend of tradition and modern craftsmanship, inspired by the values of whakapapa and connection.

We are a small Māori-owned family business creative, whakapapa-driven, and committed to honoring our ancestors. We design and handcraft coffins that reflect our Polynesian heritage, providing a sacred, dignified place for loved ones in their final days on this earth.
